These single mounted osteoderms are delicately displayed on solid wood and brass mounts. Standing roughly 3.5-4” tall (with variations depending on natural sizing), these are felt bottomed to avoid surface scratching and are decorated with an ornate rosette.
The American alligator is the largest reptile in the United States, measuring up to 12ft in adulthood and having the potential of weighing up to 1,000 pounds! These ferocious creatures are extremely territorial and are constantly in dispute with neighboring alligators. Because of their fighting nature, these animals have one of the toughest hides in the world, lined with unique bones known as “osteoderms” down their back as an added built-in defense.
